About three years ago I got a Merkur 34C, but unfortunately the thread on the lid stripped recently, so I’d been having to manually press the lid down while shaving, which is difficult to do quickly. I thought I’d be using that razor indefinitely, and I quite liked how it held, but it turns out that the shallow threading wears out quite quickly because the razor is not made of stainless steel. A replacement lid is fairly cheap but fundamentally the parts of a razor which are in frequent contact with water need to be made of something stronger. Merkur and Feather have stainless steel razors– including basically a stainless steel 34C– but they’re over $100.

After some internet searching, I saw that Razorock (a Canadian CNC company?) makes a stainless 34C clone for $60 + $10 shipping. I’ll have to see if everything is still looking good in three years, but it feels okay so far, the handle is just a little narrower and longer.
